BOOK REVIEW OF THE CUTAWAY
By suspense author Christina Kovac
There are few writers who are capable of turning out a
good novel at first try. I suspect that the success of this book is the fact
that Kovac is familiar with her subject matter, which is broadcast news. All of
the characters in this thriller are believable. They sometimes react in ways
that aren’t predictable, which keeps the Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8737824466262617601.post-70570295400284159942018-01-18T10:38:00.001-06:002018-01-18T10:38:38.475-06:00
WHO CREATES TV COMMERCIALS AND ARE THEY SERIOUS?
Some TV commercials are works of art. They amuse us and some
are too cute for words. It seems that the worse, most annoying ones are played
and replayed for most of our lifespan. I love the Breath Right commercial where
the little girl is videoing her mother who is in bed with a cold. I also love
the dog commercials. My least favorite is the Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8737824466262617601.post-90121262195614395152018-01-14T15:45:00.001-06:002018-01-14T15:45:44.118-06:00
I HATE OUR NEW
OVEN
One of the things I learned as a computer programmer was not to get
carried away with all of the bells and whistles. There are too many programmers
today that would install a computer on a claw hammer if someone in management gave
them a wink and a nod. One of the many features on our new oven was a feature
where a Jewish person could program the oven ahead of time so it Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8737824466262617601.post-6328579700912006712017-11-10T10:39:00.002-06:002017-11-10T10:39:42.581-06:00
City of Bones
by Michael Connelly
I don’t know how I missed City of Bones
by Michael Connelly for so many years. I am a Connelly fan and as far as I know
I have read all the others. There are far too many books today that have a boring
sameness to them. By the end of the first chapter you know what is going to
happen, which is often nothing, and you have to yawn your way through a couple

I search through
my bookshelves occasionally, finding books I read and enjoyed many years ago. A
few days ago, I ran across a book by one of the top suspense writers and
remembered how much I enjoyed it twenty-five years ago. At that time in my life,
I was involved with computers, writing some of my own software and buying too
many gadgets. Computers offered some exciting possibilities for Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8737824466262617601.post-73572888041949892832017-08-19T10:36:00.000-05:002017-08-19T10:36:03.100-05:00AN ALTERNATE WAY OF DOING THINGS
There was a story on the evening news last night
that made me squirm. I wasn’t listening until they were well into the story so
I don’t remember the names, but the story went something like this. A well-known
baseball player died. One of his fans asked the family for some of the ball
player’s ashes so he could do something to honor his memory. The family
complied with his request and gave him Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8737824466262617601.post-56030703367678710162017-08-02T13:42:00.002-05:002017-08-02T13:42:30.009-05:00
FORGOTTEN
A
new romance/suspense novel
by
Joe
Prentis
I wouldn’t knowingly start any novel
if there wasn’t a romance involved in the plot. Who could ever forget Les
Miserables, Gone with the Wind, or Anna Karenina? In other books, the love
interests might be more subtle. You will find love stories intertwined in the
main plot in most suspense novels. James Patterson does it well, and Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8737824466262617601.post-17706078497247795422016-02-21T13:56:00.000-06:002016-02-21T13:56:41.395-06:00

Review of ANTAEUS FACTOR
BY
Ian Welch
5-star review
I certainly did not regret my decision to purchase Antaeus Factor.
It is a skillfully constructed thriller, and at the same time it is a murder
mystery, with an intricate plot and well-developed characters. The action takes
the reader on a whirlwind ride across the globe.

READ A GOOD BOOK, FEED THE WRITER’S EGO!
I think it is wonderful that some experienced writers spend
so much time answering research questions for the rest of us. Three generous
experts come immediately to mind; Neil Low, Dr. Doug Lyle, and Lee Lofland. Many
novels have passed the giggle test because these experts went to the trouble of
giving an accurate answer to some obscure research Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8737824466262617601.post-81996995449006771812015-10-11T14:32:00.000-05:002015-10-11T14:32:00.113-05:00

If your heart isn’t in the right place, you’re going to be
offended by some of the passages in Blindsided. One of my favorite pictures is

I LOVE YOU MORE THAN WORDS CAN POSSIBLY EXPRESS. WHY WON’T

I don’t know why we’re always surprised at negative
emotions. The worse of them are hard-wired in our brain from a primitive time
when we had to fight tooth and nail for our very existence.

BLINDSIDED
The making of a Novel
I have written 16 books that vary
from Civil War stories to Suspense, Crime fiction, and Westerns. Even though
they vary widely in subject matter, they have one characteristic in common. All
of them contain romance as a subplot because love is a part of life as I know
it. Until I started writing Blindsided, I had never written a story that could

WHAT I DON’T BELIEVE
I have spent the last few months writing a book
about intolerance and bullying. I have seen a lot of both during my lifetime,
and most of it is from people who don’t know what they believe. Even the most
intelligent among us change their core beliefs during their lifetime. Democrats
become Republicans or the other way around. Marriages might not last a

BULLYING -- THE UNKINDEST CUT OF THEM ALL
If you look at the statistics, you might think that bullying
is the number one sport in America
rather than football. There are far too many incidents, and a surprising number
of them lead to suicide. Each year, 750,000 people attempt suicide in the U.S.
and 30,000 of them succeed. No one knows how many of the suicides among
adolescents are caused Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8737824466262617601.post-12502502704046016692015-09-12T11:32:00.000-05:002015-09-12T11:32:09.772-05:00

FREEDOM OF SPEECH IN AMERICA?
If you were to search for the reason so many people left
their homeland in Europe and came to America,
the word ‘freedom’ would rank high on the list. Freedom is embodied in our Bill
of Rights and it is the foundation of our society. We are said to believe that
the pursuit of happiness‒ as long as it doesn’t impact the rights of others‒ is
what America is

I followed the voyage of Zac

person to sail solo around the world. When Zac’s sister, Abby, decided to beat
her brother’s record, I was astounded. Why on earth would a 16-year-old girl

.
When someone on
Facebook asked, “are there any men who write romance?” I immediately thought of
Nicholas Sparks and his seventeen romance novels. I went to my bookshelves and
prowled through the section where I had his books filled neatly away. It had
been a number of years since I had read The
Guardian, so I brought it back to my easy chair and decided to read it
again. In the few minutes Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8737824466262617601.post-64195380693912434692015-05-19T16:08:00.005-05:002015-05-19T16:11:37.269-05:00REVIEW OF ELI'S COMING BY DARCIA HELLE
